Fish

In the sea of time's immemorial seed,
Selection is quite discriminatory indeed,
Undulating to find that suitable mate,
Natural selection ensuring survival by fate,
You've got to be strong to swim on with your prehistoric date.

From fin of fish to an amphibian's foot opening a new door,
Treading from the waves to the sandy shore,
Those who can't keep pace will fossilize in a bed of chalk,
If you're smart you'll walk the walk,
Or you might end up on a museum tour's talk.

Amphibians into reptiles with multicolored skin so scaly,
Eat to be eaten, the competition continues daily,
Running is the key, on a meaty menu you're dangling,
Escape the meteor strike and you'll see the earth changing,
Before you know it you got legs and fur...from the trees you'll be hanging.

Stand upright, don't worry about the toothy competition,
Reach for the mate with the better intuition,
Who cares if a saber-tooth tiger's meal she'll most likely make,
Stand on up, playing the monkey is just so fake,
Throw that bone in the air, there's a new World for you to take.

Now that you've made it and are sitting in front this computer screen,
Think about the moral of the story and what in means,
Choose wisely my friend, if you are willing and able,
Try not to end up like the fish in my rhyming fable,
Fossilized and sitting atop a living room coffee table...
