Confession of Confusion

Looking people in the eye,
Give a smile, they turn away very shy,
Too wrapped in their own little world to give you the time,
Can someone tell me why?

They used to be more agreeable,
Approach them with a wide toothy grin,
They hardly dare to speak these days,
Afraid of verbal intercourse, I would guess.

I cannot tell what the problem is,
This dilemma I'm wearing on my sleeve,
The reek of isolated sadness,
Permeates modern society.

Think about your perception of what's around,
What you have lost and what you have found,
Is this for the better, or is it for the worse?
Is it is you, is it is me?

I must confess...I am confused,
Our world has changed of late,
Everyone seems so insulated and preoccupied with no meaning,
Shallow...completely absorbed with technological things...
