Monster Inside

Deep inside you there lies a beast,
A creature that begs you to do bad things,
Not asked for...but given,
Cutting flesh or burning away pain.

Never do I understand the Monster,
It surfaces to hurt and wrought pain,
Wishing to slay it with love and compassion,
Heard not, the creature lives, telling you to run away.

Perhaps one day the creature will fade,
The year when love destroys its hold,
Matching numbers on the clock telling if it’s time,
For the Monster to leave, and free you from cocaine.
