Sitting Beneath The Poetree...


Poetry speaks to us all in different ways. Some poems fit with our emotions and bring us to tears...others say nothing leaving us at a loss for meaning. A majority of my poetry is written from experience and the emotions that I felt at the time. Much of it comes from the Heart. At times, only I understand the true meaning of the poem. However, I try to instill enough mystery and vagueness into the work, giving the reader personal ownership, perhaps touching a chord in their soul, and giving them a line that might have meaning in their lives. Not all poetry is perfect (God knows that I have written poetry that is, at best, an amateur attempt!)…but in my opinion there is no such thing as bad poetry…

It's up to you, the reader, to determine if the poem has meaning...

Shapes The Poetry Makes

I read the lines the poet has laid, Good, bad and ugly, those compliments are paid, But glancing at the letters gracing the page, I see strange shapes that the lines have made. A poem weaves life into two lover's embrace, The image is clear as the lines fall into place, Their touch is quite wordy, but the message is clear, I'm seeing it happen as the letters disappear. A drunkard sits and kicks his dog, The goblet he holds comes out of the literary fog, Almost tasting the liquor on his breath, This poet's write shows life's symbols of death. A downtrodden woman begs for life in another, Her shape is quite lovely even if her lines are a bother, The words they just seem to all fade away, I see her plea and understand what she has to say. Look for perfection even if the lines aren't speaking, A poet's work gives life, so open your eyes and start seeing, You may find something you didn't expect, Shaping the poem with visual introspect. ...

Selkie

From the dark waves of the North she comes, Shedding her guise to reveal a new kind of love, Her dark eyes mysterious with hair that shines beneath the sun, In search of passion, that takes a different road. Deeply intent she walks a rocky path, Taking a form so different than the new found soul, Arms entwined with a love she's never had, The waves splash gently on the unknown shore. Calling her back from whence she came before, Sadness clouds her eyes as she turns herself back, Empty expanse while her lover waits upon the sand, Back in the seas she hears the wailing call. She looks in dreams upon the life she wishes to have, A lover taken to her, until the end of days, Lives must change for happiness to be had, Come unto me and live the dream, she breathes.
